1 Piece, 2 Ways - How To Style A Kimono

Updated: Mar 5, 2020

The number one thing I recommend to my styling clients is to consider versatility when tossing up whether to purchase an item or not. Selecting a piece which can be dressed up or down is the key to nailing that CPW (cost per wear) and ensuring a wardrobe which works for all seasons and occasions. A great example of a versatile piece is a Kimono - it can be styled to work any occasion, from lounge wear to a beach cover up to casual wear through to event.

This Autumn/Winter I am revisiting my love for Kimono's with the Eb&ive Lucia Kimono. This kimono is the perfect trans-seasonal piece - light weight, easy to throw on and comes in a soft and cohesive colour palette which works with a wide range of tones. I've styled this two different ways to show just how versatile it is!

Casual

A simple v neck cami with some skinny jeans is a great basic outfit to throw a Kimono over. The balance of relaxed denim with a soft and elegant throw over creates a great mix - these jeans are the Sabel Denim also by Eb&ive and are a super comfortable stretch fabric( added bonus, they sit perfectly below a baby bump!). I added some simple white sneakers, statement cat eye sunglasses and another great piece by Eb&ive, the Lavaux Pouch. It can be tempting to go ultra boho when styling a Kimono but they can also work really well with a minimalist, normcore outfit too so try playing around with your denim, sneakers and basics to get a unique and effortless look.

Glam

Dressing up this Kimono wasn't hard, with the dark tones bringing enough drama and luxury to make an evening look easily achievable. The tones in the stripe called for a base of black and so I went for a fitted tube dress. The flowing shape of the kimono is perfectly balanced by this fitted black dress and I have then broken it up with a belt. Again, to counteract the flow of the fabric, a simple no fuss hair style is key. I then added in a pair of Eb&ive's Provence Shimmer Earrings to dress it up a little more and the Lavaux Pouch in Light Moss to add some texture. Texture is a great way to add an element of glamour to an otherwise simple look. The ankle boots are the perfect choice to provide some height and edge to finish off to the look.
