There is something about the turn of the calendar that inspires change, a fresh approach and sense of creativity - new year, new opportunities to renew the wardrobe for a stylish year ahead. Editing down trends is quite a process, as every season and every runway brings loads of fresh, shiny, new options to choose from but after much research and a thorough break down, here is a round up of the top 5 items for 2019...

1. The Bike Short
Who knew this could be chic and timeless? Let's thank Christine Centenera for reinventing the bike short into a wardrobe staple this season. The key is to find a longer cut which sits closer to the knee than up near the crotch, 80's be gone! Styling the bike short is all about simplicity and proportion - an oversized tee, jumper or blazer are perfect. Colour is also important, stick with black and nuetral to keep the vibe chic and modern, when it comes to bike shorts, no colour allowed.

2. The Belt Bag
Again, hail Miss Centenera for making the belt bag chic AF. I was hesitant about this trend for a hot minute but very quickly changed my mind - what could be as practicle as a bag which requires no hands. Style over the shoulder and across the torso rather than around the waist to keep this modern and fresh. Look for compact designs in boxy shapes and stick to black or leopard print.

3. The Linen Jumpsuit
Linen is the hottest (or coolest if we speak in body temperature terms) fabric of the moment and suits the laid back, quintessential Australian to a tee. What could be more easy, breezy than a linen basic? A linen jumpsuit of course! The simpolcity of throwing on a one piece is so enticing, it takes all of the guess work away from pairing together separates and makes a statement all on its own which means accessories can be minimal and an after thought. Go for beige, navy or sage when selecting a linen jumpsuit for a chic and timeless feeling which will work for day and night.

4. The Cat Eye Frame
What is more fun than a pair of sunglasses in a brand new shape? Cat Eye sunglasses add a unique twist and flair to any outfit and can be as subtle or bold as you choose, with wild drawn out shapes for the more adventurous and a more sleek and streamlined version for those who want to dip their feet in without being ott. Plain black is the ultra chic choice but for something a little fun, reflective or rose coloured are a great option too.

5. The Oversized Jumper
This can hardly be called a "trend" or a "fresh new look" but the way in which oversized jumpers have taken over the gram recrently suggest it at the hiehgt of its popularity. So-big-it-could-be-a-dress jersey jumpers are the perfectl blend of comofrt and stylability, lending to this seasons key looks of bike shorts and sporty sneakers. Wear yours in a pastel pink with a white sneaker and little else or go edgy with a black bike short and heel. Comfortable never looked so good.
