Dressing casually doesn't have to mean losing your style - there is a way to put together a casual, comfortable outfit in a way that looks put together. Good style 100% crosses over from formal through to casual, the key is in the fabrics, proportions, colours and details.

The Shoe
Sneakers have never been more in, wear them with anything, wear them with pride. You can get creative and go for metallics, print or canvas versions or get ultra sporty and opt for some Nikes. Stick to blacks, whites, silvers and greys to ensure you will always be able to match them to things. Bright coloured shoes are great but it becomes limiting when you want to mix it up and top and end up being too much.

The basics
A good basic goes a long way. Look for a v-neck or a crew neck long sleeve top and t-shirt. ASOS have a great 3 pack variety in black, white and silver and you can't wrong - the cut is perfect! A crew neck is perfect for pairing with a scarf and a v-neck is always flattering. Again, stick to a neutral colour palette with your basics to ensure they extend as far as possible across your wardrobe. Cottons and linens are key.

The Silhouette
Balance your boyfriend jeans with a tighter long sleeve top and balance your skinny jeans with either a looser top or jacket, or a great option is a puffer vest over a tight top. This balancing of volume is essential!

The Denim
boyfriend denim is always a winner or a basic skinny leg, both are great with a pair of sneakers. Roll the cuff to show off the ankle slightly - this extends the leg, shows of the shoes and gives an instantly "styled" feel to the outfit. The best washes are black, mid blue and white. Distressed detailing is a great way to add something extra without needing to rely on accessories.

The Details
I love a beanie or a chunky scarf - anything textural is great, think cable knits, faux fur, fringe, anything which provides dimension. While dressing casually is all about effortless ease, the little details are important in pulling the look together. Basic black sunglasses always pull a look together too, keep them simple and streamline.
