Nail trends usually tend to go from one extreme to the other, from short and square to long and pointy, reds and blacks to nudes and pastels right through to bubble gum brights. Right now it seems that the extremes have settled and we are seeing a little bit of everything, the heavy trend focus has given way to a more "each to their own" vibe. That being said, there are a few noticeable standouts among the mix with navy blue, brown based neutrals and soft pastels being seen on runways, in editorials and onto the streets.
The biggest name in nails right now is Kester Black – the Australian made, vegan and cruelty free nail polish range. Kester Black have a beautiful selection of colours and I decided to try out three different shades with the super talented nail artist, Anna O'Shea from Designer Nails by Anna O’Shea.
I met Anna last year through a personal styling session and discovered her passion for nail art after visiting her home salon and checking out some of her work. Anna got me onto Kester Black and now I am totally obsessed with their products! The colour range is pure perfection and the ethos of the brand, being cruelty free and vegan, plus the fact it is Australian, makes it a clear winner in my books. If your after ethical products and believe in supporting Australia brands, check out the magic that is Kester Black here.
Ever since Chanel came out with a divine deep blue shade a couple of years ago, I have been hooked on navy nails. I have always struggled to find one that is rich enough in depth - it would always come out too bright. "Periwinkle" is super dark, almost black with just a hint of navy and it is my absolute favourite, I am still wearing it now and I think it will become my new go-to.
Nudes are a huge trend right now, from clothing and interiors through to makeup and nails. I selected "Quartz" because it has a some warm and depth to it while still being a classic neutral. I have never seen a shade quite like this, it is the perfect blend of chocolate, beige, gold and honey. It is classic and understated but still unique. "Quartz" works well with gold jewellery, beige and white clothing, leopard print accessories or against anything black.
While not usually a fan of purple, this pastel shade is subtle enough to work for me. "Prenup" looks great with white, denim, silver and turquoise and reminds me of fresh youthfulness, days in the sun and not taking life too seriously.
Anna created a great shape for me, short square-round and super clean. Her products are all gentle and I could feel the difference to my nails before the polish even went on. Anna's application was precise, gentle and flawless. My nails haven't had much love for a while and it was nice to see them perfectly even and smooth.
Two days later the polish is still chip free despite cleaning, dealing with my crazy (and adorable) toddler and two gym sessions and still looks like it was just applied. I gave up on Shellac and Acrylic nails years ago because I like natural nails and don't often have the time to fit in appointments so I am so impressed with Anna's skills in creating a good shape on my short, natural nails. She also does incredible designs and a full range of nail services so whether you like a basic manicure or enjoy being more creative, she is the one to see!
