Tried & Tested - The Brazilian Blowout Treatment

Updated: Feb 11, 2020

The Brazilian Blowout Smoothing Treatment has undergone some changes since I first tried it about 8 years ago, back when there wasn't much awareness of the dangers of formaldehyde and the excessive chemicals used in the products. I was left with hair loss and quite average results. The Brazillian Blowout system has since undergone a radical transformation and is now safe, scalp friendly and full of positives from frizz free hair to ultimate shine and manageability.

Working with Headquarters Deakin over the past few months with regular my Olaplex treatments (you can read all about it here), I have absolute trust in their recommendations. I booked a Brazilian Blowout treatment to see me through the summer humidity because my hair turns from good to bad in about 2 minutes when the humidity hits. My hair is tricky over the warmer months, it can predict rain, it can tell you if I have been to the gym and it knows if so much as a kettle has boiled within 5 meters of me...humidity and my hair do not get along!

Before: Rough Blow

This is my hair when it is blasted from wet to semi-dry without a brush or any help - this is the state of my natural hair when blow dried quickly with no product or manipulation. It is obviously very frizzy and I wouldn't usually dry it this way but it shows the normal state of my hair without any product or styling.

The Treatment

My hair was washed and rinsed then washed and rinsed again to remove product build up and strip it back to it's natural state free from all oil. The product was applied and left on for 40 minutes then rinsed out. Another product was applied and rinsed, then my hair was blow dried straight in small sections. Following this, my hair was split into smaller sections and run over with a straighter up to 8 times. The entire process takes about 3 hours but oh-my-god-worth-it by the end!

I picked up an Evo pack to continue to look after my hair - these packs make a great Christmas present or travel set, coming in a gorgeous zip up bag. Kelly mixed in some product with the conditioner to fight brassiness and I grabbed the "Gluttony Volume" shampoo, the "Ritual Salvation" conditioner and the "Fabuloso Volume" conditioner. I am so sold on evo, it is without a doubt my favourite salon quality brand both for the results and quirky packaging!

The Results

These images show my hair on the day of the treatment. My hair has never looked or felt like this. It is poker straight, glossy, drops beautifully and best of all, not one single sign of frizz. I have since been to the gym, had two showers without wetting my hair (would usually create frizz despite my best efforts to keep my hair protected from the water) and it is still straight, shiny and salon perfect. I know after I wash it out it won't be this sleek and shiny but I can tell the hair structure is smoother and much more relaxed. I can't wait to wash my hair and let it dry naturally to see the results.

The Verdict

After a normal wash and air dry my hair is much softer, smoother and dries into a gentle wave. I used to hate my hair after natural drying but now all I need to do is a once over the front sections with a straightener and I am good to go.

My hair journey with Headquarters has been a true love story. It is not just the skill level I adore but the vibe and the tribe. I am so glad I took Kelly's advice gave the updated version of the Brazilian Blowout another go. My hair feels like the hair I wish I was born with, sleek, shiny, fuss free and healthy.

Signed, sealed, delivered, Brazilian Blowout...I'm yours x
